It’s important for me to explain a few things concerning the transfer request @she made over 20 days ago to be promoted at v/AskVoat. It would be cowardly of me not to at this point.
First, and the only objective point of concern, is that the subverse transfer request is 100% valid, meaning all conditions are met for a transfer. According to our rules this subverse request was approved at the time of request and according to our latest stricter rules governing subverse transfers this request is still valid. The subject should end here. But it doesn’t.
People rebelled against this request and SheGate was born. The comments @she had expressed on Voat were used as fodder. In concerns of not making a mistake I put the transfer on hold. This was ultimately my point of failure. My intentions were to see if the concerns raised were valid and by my best calculations, time would be on my side in order to judge. If you are perceptive you should be asking, “Why is an admin judging anything or anyone? Is this ________ 2.0?” Well that is the entire point of this post. I am guilty of not using rules objectively and decided to use other means to reach a conclusion. I let the “mob” override established processes. This is a failure on my part. Why? Because I should never be in a position to subjectively judge anyone or anything. I did it while trying to appease a community in the name of “our best interests.”
What did I find in the last three weeks? Nothing. Nothing that changes a single fact concerning the validity of the transfer. Now before you sharpen the pitchforks you have to remember I’m looking for conclusive proof, not shesay.
Many of you see what has transpired lately as a success but I mostly view this as a failure, my failure. I only have to decide to subjectively evaluate your subverse request for you to see the fault in what was done to @she. For a quick second, attempt to visualize me parsing your comment history looking for Twinkie references because you submitted a subverse request for v/FatPeopleHate. This thought should concern everyone.
Voat is supposed to be a place where one can freely express views, no matter how controversial, unpopular, shunned, or frowned upon, but this experience proves to me that we have some road yet to cover. SheGate proved that this community is just as vicious, just as judgmental, and just as intolerant as those we seek asylum from. Our duty is to not be a mirror image of that which we hate, but to be better.
As for v/AskVoat: We are transferring it to @she for one simple reason: The transfer request is valid. It’s not our job to determine intent, it’s our job to determine validity based on rules. Additionally will we not create new rules and retroactively apply them. If you think our transfer request rules need tuning then contribute your opinions and make them better.
Personally I hope @she does a fantastic job because I think this situation has the potential to prove that an ideologically chaotic group can still function as a whole.
For the small vocal group intent on creating division at Voat: you need to calm your tits and give @she a chance.
