Why does a mod need to be active? Are you actually advocating for censorship on Voat? Seems to me the mod of that sub is doing exactly what we want letting upfatties and downpaos control what shows up.
With the reddit exodus I have tried to snap up all the subs I used to use on Reddit, and I will moderate them in the exact same manner, I will allow the users to chose what they agree/disagree with instead of crafting a narrative through moderation.
There is a huge difference between censoring things to maintain a narrative, and basic moderation to keep a subverse on-topic. If someone comes into /v/mtgaltered and starts asking about how to mod Skyrim, that's something that's clearly completely unrelated to the subverse, and shouldn't have to rely on users to self-moderate it. Having an active moderator is a good thing, if they are good at it.

Absolutely not, let the users downvote the post to hide it. Otherwise it's all grey area. This is exactly the type of garbage ruining reddit. A poser thinks something is on topic, but a mod removes it because in his wisdom it's not. Let the users decide that's what they're given upvotes and downvotes for!!!!

If the mod is doing what he is supposed to be doing, it's only by accident.
I agree with this 100%. You've just described my philosophy on moderation perfectly.

What does that mean.
