The most interesting thing to me about the far side of the moon is the lack of maria. Due to the moon being tidally locked with the Earth during its formative years, our side of the moon was exposed to the still-very-hot earth which caused the moon's crust facing us to cool differently and smooth out into the distinctive plains we're used to seeing.
