Bros, i am not gonna lie: i have never understood why astronomers are so focused on water and oxygen when they look for life.
Wouldnt flourine, or any other electronegative chemical, found in abundance, work just as well as O? Half of the life on that world could have the job that plants do here: take in Flourine compunds, use energy from the Sun or chemical energy from the potential across cloud layers (if youre the Cloud People of Jupiter), and exhale F2, which, of course, some "animal" breathes in, and exhales a reduced flourine compound.
And what about silicone instead of carbon, methane instead of water, or the damn Yarn People of Nylar-IV. Or the interplanetary Plasma People who carry genetic information in the form of electric fields instead of chemicals, like we do.
Is thia carbon chauvanism? Are these astronomers just shitlording?
