I had lyme's disease for 3 months because Doxycycline didn't work. Also, Western Blot is an utterly useless test. The only reason I took it was because the doctor insisted. I had an initial red rash under my armpit that developed into a red ring. I then had red softball size spots show up on my leg, and that really freaked me out. The Doxy knocked the Lyme's disease back, but it didn't eliminate it 100% as I developed joint pain a week after stopping the first round of antibiotics. A second round of Doxy and a week later more joint pain. Finally saw a specialist and I was prescribed cefuroxime, and that cured everything. The memory side effect of that drug is crazy. I guess that's why they don't prescribe it first. I had zero short term memory when taking that antibiotic.

It depends on what stage the kidney failure is, but I'd say not more than a year. With his drug history and other symptoms he wouldn't be able to get a transplant. So, my condolences.

I had a coworker who had lyme's but I thought it wasn't curable? It seemed to be a pretty miserable disease, perhaps she didn't catch it soon enough.

In about 20% of people it's not curable for whatever reason. I was lucky, and I was eventually cured. Some people don't get/notice the rash. It's extremely frustrating to know that something's not right, and not know what's wrong with you.
