What's the significance of darkmatter?

Well, for one, it doesn't interact with electromagnetic sources, which includes light. This means that you can't "see" dark matter because it neither reflects or absorbs light. It also makes up about 27% of our universe, while normal matter (things you can touch and see) makes up only 5%. The reason we believe dark matter exists is because the amount of matter in galaxies isn't enough to have them form from gravity or even keep them together. So there must be other "stuff" there that we haven't detected yet. We don't know how to describe it, or even what it does other than it is affected by gravity, so we call it dark matter.

It would be grand, wouldn't it? Unfortunately I don't think the LHC will, itself, discover dark matter. There is no information on what dark matter is to look for whatever it is. The LHC was built to get direct measurements of a particle that scientists were practically certain existed. There was already a lot of inferred evidence and mathematical evidence of the existence and properties of the Higgs Boson. Scientists already knew what they were looking for when they built the LHC.

In so far as Dark Matter, all that is known about it is that there should be something that causes the effects that scientists see but that's about all the evidence we have.

Well, it had to be created in the first moments after the big bang. Surely we should be able to create it as well.
