@Slug @Bashlet @MathGrunt @Teh_Sauce_Guy @YourBlueIsMyPurple

A user is bitching over at /v/ProtectVoat about a deleted comment, which was seriously racist, but as the mods of such a large I think you guys need to create a more clear set of rules and submissions guidelines for /v/Science so there is no further confusion.

Also, love the sub (I am a genetic anthropologist by education so I really enjoy the content here).

I'll have a look.

We've talked about solidifying the rules a bit, and had an open feedback post a few months back. We should probably finalize.

Alright, I got me a minute of free time of running around with my hair on fire.

It is my opinion, from the perspective of not a moderator but as a person and a believer in science that this type of content has no place in science, not because "I don't like it you hurt muh feelings, buhuhuhu" but because it's pseudoscience. The worst kind of "science" if you can call it that.

Also I've been up for 30 hours now so this post is probably not coherent. See y'all in a few months when I find this in my bookmarks again.

(also: Christmas break will arrive soon! Then I can maybe I can get some free time to do mod stuff! Maybe I'll even be able to play Fallout for a few minutes! pls end my pitiful existence (don't actually))

The comment is utterly racist, but there needs to be a defined reason as to why it was removed.

I understand racism has no place in science, I am a geneticist; I spent years studying the genetic makeup of man and have clearly seen that genetically, we are all equal (though I am biased and would say certain cultures exist beyond others). But if such comments are to be removed, there should be a rule in the sidebar concerning this topic. As it stands, the rules here are quite liberal, because there are almost literally none, but if you guys are going to remove comments/submissions, there must be visible reasoning for it.

It may be time for another open feedback post concerning the rules since Voat has changed so much in the recent months.

Thank you very much for your quick reply @YourBlueIsMyPurple, I really appreciate it.

Where exactly are the official rules for this sub published? Maybe I'm just blind but I can't find them. The only "rules" I see posted in the side bar is "Please try to post direct links to journals. Biased articles and sensational titles will be deleted.".

Given that most posts contain no links to journals, and that articles with sensationalist headlines (as far as I can tell) are almost never removed I'm lead to believe that this place has no real rules. While I get that Voat wants to promote free speech, the comments around here are truly becoming a mess. Most of the time no real science is discussed, it just becomes a mix of humor posts, layman speculation, and anecdotal bullshit.

I am one of the people who filed a few of the joke "spam" reports. Why? Because there's no other reasonable way to show you guys how off topic and derailed some of these threads are getting. I love science discussions, but this place is far less conducive to that end because of what people are allowed to get away with.

Rules are actually part of the User Agreement. They are hard to find. Maybe the bigger subs can put a link to the sitewide rules.

Agreed on posts, but people should be free to speak their minds in the comments section.

Oh but its quite sciency, the niggers multiplied like crazy because they got GMO corn to grow in their barren deserts. If they got access to clean water you can say goodbye to those projected growth rates.

Besides, who needs more niggers. Because niggers have low IQ's, they have contributed nothing to civilization. They have no important industry, no important scientific heads, the best that they do is renting their lands to chinese or exporting oil. Neither of which they have a hand in.

No niggers are pretty much useless on this planet. Only the white man has a huge industry that encompasses pretty much everything on this planet. All of the car makers are the white man, all of the technology is owned by the white man, the whole world buys weapons from the white man. There is pretty much not a single thing that the third world is good for except making useless sacks of meat that pollute and bring misery to the planet. Id say we should just nuke them all.

I have had so much trouble with posters on other sites falsely reporting my content as spam. For me it is usually the Israelis or the hard right American neo-Cons doing it, which is why I'm surprised you're finding this a problem on the science sub. My experience is that these type of malicious reports are usually catalysed by a disagreement in political ideology. The irony of course is that these people usually get their own way by spamming the mods with false reports generated by bots.

I think most people are here specifically because Voat is not yet removing stuff on arbitrary grounds. But once the traffic goes up, you can probably expect the brigaders to step their game up.

Yup! It's right under the comments. Clicking on it will give you an "Are you sure" prompt. If you select "Yes", it gives the moderators a notification with a link to the comment.

And if you haven't seen any spam, good! It means we're doing our jobs right. :P
