It's not as crazy as it first sounds. Atlantis like we know it today with flying cars and shit like that is obviously ridiculous, but it's more than plausible for an advanced (for its time) civilization to have existed that was destroyed by the Minoan eruption which we know caused massive damage.

Absolutely would've. The eruption pretty much broke an island in half, probably did a lot of damage to the surrounding coasts.
