Well, it had to start somewhere. And when you think about it, life - in its most basal form - is just a constant, self-maintaining chemical reaction. Nevermind stuff like (vaguely) intentional reproduction that probably popped up later.

Computers are used extensively to help build better computers. At some point you just have to accept that properties of the universe are just properties of the universe. Such as the ability to form increasingly complex communication networks.
