It's a smaller target than any equipment can resolve, all data about the trajectory etc checks out. Anything closer would be orbiting the sun and not be able to hold such a stable position relative to background stars. If you track it across the sky and plot the trajectory, you will find that it is indeed flying away from the sun to never return.
