I'm having troubles understanding what you're saying here tbh. You said the cap could've been better. It was made of gold. I don't know how much more conductive you can get. Now you're talking about thinner conductive layers and thinner insulation?
Electrolyte capacitor? I don't think that at this scale, both size and capacitance, you would want a rapid discharge. With low voltage coming in and potentially a large demand on the storage you'd want something that wouldn't release a charge until storage was sufficiently large and you wouldn't want to release all of it or much of it quickly at all. The amount of charge that a capacitor of this size could hold would be more useful if it were slowly released, like as from a battery.
the charge has to be released by switch and not be held back by low conductance because unwanted discharge will always be too high. its like a bucket with a hole to regulate how much it is being filled. the gold was only on the tip and on the surface so it is pointless for a capacitor the whole size of the pyramid
