I understand your view point but think scientist should be more creative in naming these units that act as one. Having a similar quality doesn't necessitate this naming scheme.

I also wonder how they behave under different conditions. Will fission or fusion release energy?

edit: And I could see battery tech improving...

Science has always emphasized precision and detail over clarity - the people who are at the bleeding edge of discoveries are constantly making up new terms and defining them, often redundantly with existing terms.

Honestly, the more I think about these structures the more interested I become. They might be useful as catalytic surfaces as well! Imagine not having to use silver or platinum to catalyze a reaction any more!

Yes, it makes current materials look very... primitive. Although we should also be concerned with environmental/health effects, both positive and negative.
