a pair of chromosomes do not always suffice to distinguish girl/boy—either from the standpoint of sex (biological traits) or of gender (social identity).

That's called mental illness and gender dysphoria.

That is because arguments about innate biological differences between the sexes have persisted long past the time they should have been put to rest.

Then why do men choose drastically different careers than women? Or why are men more assertive and stronger than women? Or why are women shorter than men? Or why do girls do better in school than boys? Or why can only women give birth?
