Not sure about causation here. Smarter people tend to have kid later than dumbasses.

While your post illustrates the scientific fact and uses logic to explain it, the post above nails it pretty succinctly.

So you reckon if I work out like a mofo, my next kid will be a jock not a nerd?

On the other hand, old men are more likely to father children with birth defects.

Condoms require an IQ minimum of 90 to be known how to be used.

Don't be so quick to attribute to genetics what can be attributed to environmental causes. One of these things we can identify, quantify, predict; and the other we cannot. There are no isolated genetic markers for intelligence.

My dad was 46 years old when I was born.

10 year old me: "Hey Dad! Let's play catch!"
56 year old dad: "No, I'm too tired."
10 year old me goes to poke around the machine shop full of tools and old parts.

That's exactly what came to mind when I read the headline: it's not the genes, it's the predilection to engage in less intensive activities, which have a tendency to be more intellectual than catch. This woud also explain the lack of impact on girls, given dads aren't near as likely to get rough and tumble with a daughter at any age.

Oh, get over yourself.

This autist meme is so tedious.

"Hi! I've never accomplished anything... so I think anyone intelligent must be a social outcast like myself."

Have some fucking shame and challenge in your life, smart people aren't turning to drugs and suicide you moron.

I've never seen a rabbit commit suicide from depression, I guess rabbits are the smartest creatures on Earth, plus they have lots of offspring, how do we even compete with them? I've also never seen an animal cook meth, wow, how are we the Apex predator when we have so many who turn to suicide and drugs?

They must be all retards. The smart one is Mohammad living on wellfare with 5 wives, 15 kids, alcohol banned, drugs banned, suicide banned if you don't get a good k/d ratio.

I like how you assume the people posting this "have never accomplished anything." That's probably far from the truth based on the observation. People who accomplish things and have interesting lives tend to learn a lot and gain perspective. Figuring out that most of the people around you are less intelligent than you are is an important part of life for very smart people and it is an experience and aspect in life that an average-intelligence person does not have by default.

People of higher intelligence also rank higher in measures for depression and anxiety. Intelligence seems to be a prerequisite for introspection, which anxiety sufferers have far too much of.

I'm not the most intelligent person, but you are right about the isolation. I have no friends with whom I can discuss my interests other than people on online forums.

My father was 42 when my brother was born. There's nothing geeky about my brother. Did track and football throughout highschool, my dad pushed him towards baseball but the passion wasn't there. Currently applying for a job in wild land, so he can gain experience for county fire departments later on.

Think it's how parents raise their kids.

There are always outliers. My parents had me when they were younger (30ish) and I turned out geeky. I had my child at 23, and we are planning more. I'm no genius by the definition, but I'm not some scum bottom of the barrel eat on rocks dumb.

Instead of calling then geeks, could just be older parents generally have more resources and time to give to their children than younger parents. Feeding a young mind makes for a great foundation to build on. My father had my mother quit her job so she could focus on being a parent, and raise me...then my brother came along. Different interests. I can't get my brother to crack open a book or go to a museum, but I can't build anything like he can nor am I as brave as him.

The Guardian is corrupt and should be archived in the OP. It doesn't deserve our support. Please keep this in mind for future posts.

That list is more right wing than Rush Limbaugh. I won't take it seriously until institutions aren't listed as "corrupt" simply for leaning left, especially considering the bias on the "noncorrupt" side.

Now someone says reality is right wing, I call bullshit, and we have an argument that leaves no one better informed or changes a single mind so let's skip that part.

Already the case. The Intercept leans left but it's mostly ethical and listed accordingly. Likewise for every other source.

Or older men who are geekier, more aloof and have higher IQs tend to have kids later and their kids end up to be like them. This might be an incorrect conclusion we're seeing, here.

Kinda helps explain why my 17 year old cousin's kid has the cognitive ability of a lobotomized potato.
