Who's "science" should we compare to?

Science isn't a competition. It's not about comparing to others. It's about doing scientific research and reporting on the findings whether you like the data or not. American "scientists" now are researching stupid things, prioritizing political agendas, and focusing on getting grant money.

It's about doing scientific research and reporting on the findings whether you like the data or not.

In theory this is true, in practicality there simply aren't enough resources to publish the results of every study and experiment with botched protocols or negative results.

and focusing on getting grant money.

There is basically no hard money in science outside applied industrial research. If scientists don't beg for grant money, they can't do experiments and they get fired from their positions. Most of the "Science" that happens is run by graduate students, lab technicians, Post-doctoral researchers, and volunteers, Scientists (people with PhDs) basically fund and manage teams.
