Your statement:

San Marcos is hardly any closer to Awstunz, than to San Antonio

My statement:

San Marcos is a lot closer...

This is a completely unimportant conversation, so apologies for drawing it out, but I really am curious, what do you think I claimed you said?

You suggested suggested the distance was fairly equidistant and I disagreed. (A position I still hold, but having consulted a map, I'll grant the difference is less than I thought and I overstated my case.)

The other part of your statement on driving time I didn't address at all, because I haven't lived in Austin for well over 20 years and I haven't lived in San Antonio for over 25 years. As a result I have no knowledge of current driving conditions. But if I were asked to give San Marcos's location I would either describe it as a little Southwest of Austin or as between Austin and San Antonio.

If I weren't really familiar with the area (such as the writer), I'd probably relate to it by how I got there, and I'll bet she flew into AUS, not SAT. That is certainly closer, since AUS is close to 35 South of downtown, while SAT you need to cover the distance on 410 before you get to 35.

Interesting it used to only be bad during rush hour. But I think the city is now twice the size it was then, so I guess I can imagine it if they didn't increase the road system enough to handle increased traffic.
