I think at current tested power levels, it will not be useful to accelerate as fast as we both wish it would. The best it could imo do would be to allow small satellites powered by microwaves from Earth or near Earth to explore the asteroid belt or such. Those satellites would be far lighter and therefore cheaper than current designs, and could basically last forever. And the em drive would only be responsible for minor course corrections, while the actual speed would mostly come from initial boosting and maybe some gravity assist slingshotting.

Also, a probe only needing to carry the needed energy, not also propellant, would be more useful for exploring beyond the solar system, even if it was very slow.
