reminder that bill nye isn't any kind of scientist. He has a bachlor's in engineering outside of basic physics he's no authority on anything

He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree which is the most physics-oriented engineering degree. Let's not lie, there's plenty to attack and mock Bill over than his once-real qualifications.

But yes, he was never a scientist, he was an engineer (which is still STEM and closely related to what scientists do). But he's been a public figure for a long time, and hasn't been a part of any science or engineering projects in that length of time, and no longer has any authority or true modern knowledge on science.

Which would be fine if he were making a show about mechanical engineering, but he's not.

a bachlor's degree in engineering to be formally known as an engineer you need a master's

A mechanical engineering degree probably only covers basic mechanics and maybe some E&M but not at any sort of a deep level that lends understanding to the actual physics. He probably learned some watered down equations and basics.

So a list of physics subjects he can't comment on: quantum mechanics, thermodynamics (beyond absolute basics), E&M, Relativity (General and Special), anything related to biophysics or condensed matter, and anything science that is not mechanical engineering.

It frankly would have been better if he had a degree in chemical engineering.

Has he ever published anything or conducted any experiments, or put forth and tested any hypotheses? No? Then he's not a scientist, regardless of how many degrees and what types he might have.

Being a scientist actually means performing the scientific method on hypotheses, not getting a degree. Let's not forget that.

Bill Nye is a wannabe celebrity and nothing more. He knows he's completely irrelevant to 99.999% of people so he wears this ridiculous costume with a fucking bowtie so that he can be known as the wacky science guy. He's basically the prop comic of the science world. Everyone hates him but no one has the balls to tell him to fuck off straight to his face.

Didn't he, or some other well-known entertainment "scientist", have a degree in marketing instead of something useful?

You're thinking of the "aliens" weird hair guy from Ancient Aliens.

Yeah, Bill got a Mechanical Engineering degree for Cornell, so at one point, he actually did have a formal education about science and supposedly worked for Boeing for some time.

He had a team of science writers for The Science Guy, which is why it was so good. But now his ego has gone to his head and he is probably writing his own shit or getting lefties with no appreciation of real science to do it.

A bit of research later and I found that Scott Schaefer won 3 national Emmys for his writing for The Science Guy, and was the senior writer for the show, writing the scripts for 56 of the 100 episodes.
