I wouldn't be surprised. Same reason diabetics are told to continually raise their blood sugars and then use drugs to bring them back under control: $$$. Docs can't be sued if a diabetic has issues from high blood sugars, only low blood sugars. So they keep them high and if your foot falls off or you go blind oh well.
