I thought brass was a natural disinfectant and most door nobs were brass in the early 1900's.

Correct, because brass is part copper.

Yup. Brass is a copper-tin or copper-zinc alloy, whereas bronze is usually a copper-aluminium alloy.

The problem with this comment thread is that most brass door knobs are coated in a thin, "invisible" plastic to prevent it from oxidizing. This keeps the brass bright and golden, instead of turning brown and "crusty."

This plastic barrier prevents any antibacterial properties the copper could possibly have. For this reason, brass has been primarily used for its golden color, and not it's antibacterial properties.

Yeah, but a lot of what voat teaches is so massively wrong as well that the few times it is right shouldn't be lauded. A broken clock is right twice a day. About the same for voat. Seriously considering leaving due to the awful signal to noise these days since the influx of cretins from reddit who were the reason I left that. The problem here is the same as everywhere else where the concept of voting is misused to suppress things people don't like regardless of how true they may be so a lot of crap that people like gets prominence despite the bad science.
