Two purposes.

One, it preserves the webpage as it is right now, in case Esquire decides to redact and edit their article.

Two, it lets people read the article without giving Esquire views or ad revenue.

I was trying to get higher in the thread - you guys are all loons. Whether an article is in Esquire? Wtf does that have to do with content of the article? Nothing.

The most important point of the article in my opinion was how the scientists were getting death threats, silenced from speech by right wing nut jobs. That is as bad as the Left Clinton SJW PC silencing squad - WAKE UP HYPOCRITES!

Whether these scientists are telling the truth as they see it, actual truth, manipulating data - DEBATE THEM WITH THE TRUTH, not silencing them on bs with yelling and screeching like a bunch of feminists.

For fuck's sake, I am ashamed of the comments above and the silencing of speech demonstrated here. Shame on you Voat-mates.

I don't completely believe it's as bad as they say either, but part of me kinda wishes it's true. I realize people will never take the responsibility of at least stopping the increase of our numbers, even though we're so obviously a plague it's ridiculous. Even as I'm writing this there's an ad on TV raising money to stop the millions of deaths in Africa by ordinary diseases. That continent has such a big population growth as it is that they're expecting humankind to reach the 9 billion(!) years earlier than previously calculated. It drives me nuts that so few people want to see that our numbers are the root of pretty much all current serious problems. Anything nature could do to reduce us would be a true godsend, preferably to around 10% of what it's now. Sadly a disaster will also take a lot of animals with it, but if we keep on multiplying like this, a disaster will happen anyway, but not before we caused a whole lot more damage in the process. /rant

This isn't a complex issue. On the one hand, a bunch of scientists say the planet is warming. On the other, a bunch of corporate lobbyists, partisan wingnuts and corrupt right wing politicians are saying it isn't.

There are about as many Whites alive today as there were 50 years ago, in the dark ages when the world population numbered 4 billion fewer.

...So whose numbers are increasing?

Since he have a lot of people coming here from Reddit, let me repost something from Reddit as well...

I'm not gonna argue for the fuckwits in power here, but I might shed some light on the whole reason American rural people get so ticked about the EPA and think climate change isn't real.

IT pretty much goes to enforcement. Most of the small rural people have had to deal with EPA regulations cracking down on them, while driving by places they see large corporations whom have been accused of doing awful shit to the environment with no real punishment. In the area I lived in we had emissions test that were both expensive and annoying, that commercial vehicles were exempt from. So your tried and true old truck was being punished for just being a truck, but the big box truck spewing out black shit was not. They hear of places like deer run where mercury was dumped and nothing happened to the company who did the shit, while they have to pay money out of pocket and maybe loose the tools they depend on to live. That sweet spot of getting to be a larger family farm was a bad place to be as you had more regulations to cope with on the farms, while large corporate farms were seen as doing the shit your getting fined for and not getting so much as a slap on the wrist. Now the thing is, these people have a weird trust on some things... they basically assume that if these large corporations are doing it and no hell is being raised then its really not that bad, and they feel that really the regulation on them is just to extort fines. Because in their mind if this shit was really awful then they wouldn't let them get away with it because you don't let people shit where you eat. So you hear all this stuff about the world ending due to climate change and see the big guys still getting away with it while your under the yoke of fines and BS and so you think that its nothing more than propaganda to re-enforce the want of the gov to keep getting fines and being invasive to your land.

Not saying its right or whatever, but thats the view and not many people will talk about it because when met with someone who says its real and they say otherwise they usually get insulted and degraded rather than having a discussion. This only feeds the martyr complex they already have.

Edit : Thanks for the gold! I really was shocked to see this blow up!

There was also one other thing I think I should bring up having read quite a few responses. One thing to consider is that these folks also usually donate a bit to the wildlife foundation, the different states parks foundations, and state wildlife services. So they do believe they are doing good for nature and the environment as well.

In other words, if you want these "climate change deniers" to take climate change seriously, go after the corporations who are getting away with fucking up the environment.

Man made global cooling/warming. Both unproven theories.

Let's say the Earth is getting warmer. Let's say it's irreversible. The "OH MY GOD MAN CAUSED THIS!!!" but can be somehow fixed by purchasing carbon credits from Al Gore is absolutely hilarious. I've YET to see one of the so-called experts site anything that is actually factual and provable, like how axial tilt combined with the Earth's elliptical orbit changes climate patterns. They don't mention that the Earth has it's ups and downs and it's been that way for ever.

Global warming is a sham. And a poorly thought out one at that.

Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.

No. It's not. There's evidence that the temperatures have gradually gotten warmer when ONLY looking at extremely limited historical data. They got caught faking data more than once so they limit the sample size that best fits the argument.

Jesus folks.! California is out of water. Florida is tracking to run out. Almost all citrus and vegetables in the US is grown there. This will effect you.... and already is.

The ogilla aquifer that sports almost 1/2 of americas fresh drinking water AND CROP IRRIGATION is slated to run dry in about five years (give or take) Then, where will the food come from to support 1/2 a billion people? This is already effecting you at the grocery store and few realize it.

A MAJOR part of the Syrian problem is the fact that 150 million people ran out of water. No water to drink, no water to raise crops and people get radicalized, start wars and go on the move. The Tigress /Euphrates river system. The seventh larges river on the planet for the last 200m million years. Is gone, just plain gone in only 8 years This is the sole water source for southern turkey, all of Syria and Iraq. (as well as the Nile in Egypt is in SERIOUS decline) And more water migrants are projected around the globe as more water dries out. Look at the Chaos that has caused. This is effecting you with the endless radicalization and war in the region that everyone reading this has to pay for in some form or fassion.

Just because Al got it wrong by a few years and greedy bureaucrats are trying to make money with the carbon credits, doesn't mean its not happening. Act locally, effect globally. Only you can cut your consumption (not some governemnt somewhere) and you are a lame , self-centered, ignorant hillbilly if you don't at this point

2

[–] redditrunbyfascists 1 point 2 points (+3|-1) ago

well, I hear there is this industrial water treatment processes called evaporation and reverse osmosis.

water is not an issue in the least. Getting water cheaply on the other hand will require some investment.

There has never been a better time to be General Electric or Veolia (both evap producers).

The article says Florida is flooding. Now it's running out of water?

3
2

[–] hwong 3 points 2 points (+5|-3) ago

yes, Florida is running out of potable water. Flooding from mega storms and sea water intrusion into t he water table is NOT the same thing as having clean water in the reservoirs.

0
0

[–] reconstructedcaribou ago

You might take a step back and realize that the lack of water in CA and FL are from a combination of drought and excessive use for farming. Turns out there's a downside to growing the majority of the country's food in so few areas.

I know you are jaded and that jadedness makes it easy to block this stuff out without having to understand the real issues and act accordingly. But in the end, its still a serious problem. How Climate Scientists Feel About Climate Change Deniers - Jason Box Tweet Controversy

"But maybe they're wrong; maybe it could play out in a century or two."

'As a young scientist, Mann was very traditional: "I felt that scientists should take an entirely dispassionate view when discussing matters of science," he wrote in a book called The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars. '

'Trying to make the best of things, Jason Box says we should blow off the getting-to-know-you lunch and go for a bike ride. ', "As Mann sees it, scientists like Schmidt who choose to focus on the middle of the curve aren't really being scientific."

'"Part of being a scientist is you don't want to believe there is a problem you can't solve."'
