Fusion has been a rat hole. I have been hearing how it was right around the corner for the past 50 years by the people making grant proposals, the people doing the work are don't hold your breath.

What you see with the current research is too many people bet on the Tokomak and now they can't admit it isn't a winner.

I remember doing an essay on fusion in high school in the '70's based on this Popular Science article which asked if we'd actually achieve it before the end of the decade.

I'm sure the massive funding cuts had absolutely no effect on the research time frame. I remember the 2000s I compared the budget the USA threw at ITER being constructed in France. It was about $10 billion, over 10 years. We were spending $700+ billion PER YEAR bombing shit in the Middle East.

Amazing priorities right?
