If salt disassociates in water can we use a super strong magnet to direct the flow of these ions? Like running sea water through a pipe with two outlets and directing the salt into one separating it into clean water and brine?

Actually I think something like that is done with membranes now. Also the different charges may feel the force in different directions. It's been a while since I studied moving charges in a field so that may be wrong.

Even if they go in opposit directions you can still separate it by say having 3 outlets the far side will be positive ions the center will be no ions and the near side will be negative ions.
