It's on my radar, but the 30 dollar price tag is going to keep me at bay for a while. Especially for an unfinished product. That being said I'm really looking forward to it. The gameplay, theme, and features make it one of my most anticipated roguelikes.

Kyzrati is one of my favorite roguelike developers. He makes such great and interesting things and in my opinion is one of the few developers really pushing the genre further. He might help make the genre evolve altogether. I don't normally give that kind of praise, but his ASCII effects and UI work along with his other projects like REXPaint and the things he creates with them are amazing.

I don't think it's a stagnant genre, but you generally know everything to expect when you play a roguelike. The fun comes in the implementation of those features. Kyzrati is changing that in my opinion. Many roguelikes are indistinguishable from one another at first glance (at least to those who aren't overly familiar with the genre and even then) however his games stand out. Both due to game design and technical improvements. I think as his ideas and tools (REXPaint is free for any use!) are further proliferated throughout the roguelike community we'll have a bit of a renaissance and the genre with be pushed forward. Not that he'll do it single-handedly. With the popularity of roguelites in recent years along with other new roguelikes trying different things, I think it'll all culminate into something fun that will suck away many hours of our free time.

I pirated it, and think it's fun, but I sure as hell am not willing to pay $30 for it. Once the price drops to more reasonable territory when it releases it's on my list to reconsider buying. I'll probably pirate the release version and see how it looks before deciding though. The last build I played felt like a start to a great game, but was lacking in depth.

Til then there are better roguelikes for free (or cheaper). ToME4 and DCSS are my usual preference, with a bit of ADOM and DOOMRL for variety

Not surprising that it feels like a good start without a ton of depth seeing as it's still in development. I take that as a good sign and hope its progress is just as promising . Since you're a fan of DoomRL have you seen Space Grunts? I made a post about it but this subverse isn't very active. It's not all too similar, but it's very action focused with more arcade gameplay and a scifi theme so I think it might appeal to DoomRL players.

Interesting. I enjoy a good roguelite almost as much as the real deal, so action and arcade gameplay is not a problem at all. I'll give it a look for sure. (In some cases I even prefer a roguelite, like with 20XX. MegaMan X + roguelite = amazing)

I can totally understand pirating this. $30 is insane for a roguelike, but I'm pretty sure he wants to keep the player base small until he does an official release. He did say the price will drop when it is actually finished. I put off buying it for 6 months due to the price, but I just had a bit of extra money in my budget this week so I decided to run with it. I liked what he was doing and was finally in a position to support the game.

I will say, it's on of the more polished roguelikes I've ever witnessed. It's UI and effects are pretty damn good. I can see it becoming a real "gateway" type game once the price drops. The good UI and visuals attract more casual gamers, but the game has the depth to keep veterans happy.

I am really looking forward to seeing where the game goes and what all comes out in the story line and future development.

ToME is damn fun. I got into it about 2 weeks ago. My wife and I are playing it quite a bit. ADOM and DOOMRL are on my short list to play. Check this out: here. It's a collection of 7 gb worth of free rogelikes. It's pretty damn fun and I've been working through them slowly. The torrent is still seeded so it's pretty easy to get ahold of. The one roguelike I've enjoyed a lot lately is The Ground Gives Way. It's so well done I can recommend it for anyone, even those short on time.

I would upvote, but am getting an error that I can't upvote until I get more comment contribution points.
