I'm okay with those systems joining the "retrogaming" world. They defined an era of gaming where 3D graphics started to mature from the Saturn/PS1/N64 era, and started the basics of what would become modern online multiplayer for consoles.

Also: add Gameboy Advance to your list. That system was the major handheld of the era and the games showed that "portable SNES" gaming was possible.

I grew up with the Atari 2600 as my first system, so my "retro" bias will always be for the cartridge consoles of the 80s and 90s, and some of the early disc stuff (Saturn, PS1, Sega CD, Turbo Duo), but that era is so old now that's its time to allow newer systems into the club.

IMO any console before paid DLC and micro transactions are retro at this point.

And because of that, the retro scene continues to thrive knowing that the game they paid for was the complete game that was in development.

Before DLC/MTs/SJW|Gamergate is where it's at

Absolutely. They're all from the same gen after all.

I know someone who runs a gaming store (think gamestop with old consoles too).

They've been saying the "hot" items recently have been PS2's and the original XBox.

So that would tell me they've reached the age of nostalgia.

My go to rule has been, can I buy the system in a GameStop? If not it is retro. So sure, I agree those systems are retro.

Anything two full generations back is probably retro right now. That would not include Wii as the Wii and WiiU are really one generation even if they are not compatible.

not compatible

Reminds me of how people thought the Wii U was just an add-on for the Wii like the Wii Fit-Board. Bad marketing at it's finest.

With that said, Wii games run on the Wii U (HDMI)!! Probably the best way to play Wii games as of now. Definitely how I'd play any Wii games if not with RGB- SCART or S-Video on a CRT.

I was not aware of that. Might make me go out and get a Wii U now to replace my Wii. WiiU have hacks to run my "backup copies"?
