Yep. The tradition was the second son would go into the church and the church wanted to inherit if the first son died early.

Also interesting is why there were 'meatless' days where you shouldn't eat meat but could eat fish. This was done because the fisherman's guild bribed the Pope.

Interesting, I did not know that. I grew up in catholic land and we where tough the reason one used to eat fish on friday was because there was a lack of other meat. A kind of rationing if you will, but bribing the pope sounds a lot more plausible.
