I have been feeling particularly down lately; today I had such a horrible migraine that I had to call in sick on a couple of appointments I had to do today. To get relief from the pain, I went out to go buy food. There's a grocery store that's just a 15 minute walk away from my place, and on the way I passed by a guy running one of those pay parking lots. We greeted each other and I went on my way.
On the way back, I was trucking along a bunch of groceries I bought including a bag of plums. I saw the same guy again along the route, and greeted him once again. He saw the grocery basket I was pulling and asked if I could share something with him. I was in a lot of pain still and wanted to go home, but I decided to put that pain to the side for a second and share something -- I thought maybe if I did it'd make me feel better. I gave him a plum and to my surprise, he was surprised. I guess when he asked he was just joking, and was shocked when I actually took him seriously. The look on his face brightened in a way such that I realized that I must've made his whole evening by doing that. He thanked me repeatedly and I went on my way, with some of my pain gone.
Which I guess is why I started this subverse. You never know how much a small and simple act like that can affect people in a positive way, and in turn help you feel better too. Any of you guys got interesting random-acts-of-kindness stories to share? Was anyone kind to you like that?
