This study found that students with poor mental health are greater users of Social networking sites.
That's why drugs analogy seemed an appropriate to me.
But which causes which? Are students with mental illness more likely to use social networking sites, or do social networking sites induce mental illness?

Why doesn't this surprise me? Most of the kids that I see who are obsessed with using mainstream social networking sites certainly act like they have a mental disorder and an unhealthy addiction.

Because people are now connected from an early age to network and have fast access to information there is no doubt that we can expect some evolutionary changes in brain.
But obviously nothing happens over night and that changes must be slowly.
Brain is always hungry for new information stimulation, new ways to define ourselves and structure what we do and overload or overdose if you want resulting with increased depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety...
