One of my favourite quotes :)
I could be using my programming skills in an investment banking environment, the chances where there many times, my university friends took it. They now earn £400-£600 a day easy ($630 - $940). Inherently I see the systems of banking as a drain on society so I just couldn't bring myself to committing my intellect towards their goals. But the people that do aren't evil themselves, their intentions are good, they just don't see how wrong the things they do are on the bigger picture. Exactly what you say: "spend too much time doing the wrong things"
I hope this world keeps changing. You turn on the TV - war, fighting etc... easily being expressed in films and shows, why can't love and peace be expressed just as successfully. Here's to hoping humanity makes the right decisions as a whole in these following crucial decades.

Yes, I definitley agree that existential pessimism within today's society can definitley be used as fuel for more optimistic actions and outcomes.

So spot on. There's a lot of fuel to be optimistic because at the end of the day, the majority of humans want to do good to each other, it just so happens many misunderstand negative side of the actions they are performing. Blame the hierarchical abstraction layers in our society that remove people from their actions final outcomes.
