Be aware, SourceForge has been accused of doing much worse things that GitHub.

Injecting malware into installers

Trying to confuse users with download links

GitLab, here we go. This is why GitLab is better than GitHub.

Hehe, there's a bit in there which says that you can't send someone text that "represents" physical contact, i.e. "hug" or "touch", without consent.

So, to GitHub, the words "hug", "touch", and anything to do with contact, are banned without consent.

EDIT: Also, saying someone is a "he" or "she" is banned apparently, when referring to transgenders/fantasists.

EDIT2: hehe, check this out from the page...

Our open source community prioritizes marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. We will not act on complaints regarding:

So, hey, guys, you hear? If someone for example is "white", or has lots of money, you can be racist and everything and it's okay, because apparently you're "privileged"!

EDIT3: TBH, OP should have renamed the title "Github begins the outlawing of all language."

EDIT4: I've just realised, how do you ask someone for consent to say something to them? I mean if I ask "Can I say to "touch" to you please?", then haven't I just said "touch"? It's just so fucked up.

Wow, you're not kidding, that's really in there. So a comment like

Thanks! hug

is officially harassment.

Where is that mentioned?

This is insane. They won't act on "reverse" discrimination. It appears that if you are heterosexual, white or male you don't have any rights. Then, saying things like *hug or *backrub without consent is banned. I can't understand this, this seems straight from the onion.

Also, I am not white.

So I've heard that "reverse racism" is when a black person acts in a demeaning, derogatory, or expulsatory manner toward a white person. Is this what they mean? I honestly don't know what they mean and am not trying to troll. Can anyone help me out here?

The best part is that immediately below that it says -

we seek to treat everyone both as fairly and equally as possible.

...unless you're white or male. In which case it's actually impossible for you to experience any kind of harassment or prejudice. Because that's "reverse -ism". The hypocrisy just from one paragraph to the next is amazing.

You see white people, particularly white males, are superior to every other race and they can withstand all of the abuse and injustices thrown their way, simply because they are better. At least that is what these policies seem to suggest.

2
16

[–] Phekka 2 points 16 points (+18|-2) ago

Hmm yes I think reverse racism is when you give special privileges or higher opinions to a person based on their race. So it's like, race-based judgements made about someone, but instead of being bad judgements you reverse the racism and......no this all sounds pretty stupid.

0
16

[–] scorinth 0 points 16 points (+16|-0) ago

No, that's what some people call "positive racism" because you're still stereotyping them, but it's a "positive" stereotype.

Reverse racism is racism against the privileged race, typically white people. This springs from the (utter bullshit) idea that racism is about power, and therefore treating people differently based on their race is only racism if somebody in a powerful position uses it to discriminate against people who aren't in a powerful position.

12

[–] NCocy 0 points 12 points (+12|-0) ago

It's a term SJW/radfem types made up to bash people with. You see, they've redefined racism/sexism so they don't have to admit being bigots themselves, but since you can be racist to white people and sexist against men they need to attack people who think this way. So they coined the phrases "reverse racism" and "reverse sexism", pretend other people use them (pro tip: the only people using them are SJW/radfem types), then pretend the concepts for the phrases they made up don't even exist to try and erase other peoples experiences and opinions because they don't fit into their ideology. It's fucking weird and sick.

[–] moses_blimey ago

I think reverse racism and sexism is when a minority group is prejudiced towards a majority group.

But, that definition requires that GitHub define a scope to determine who is the minority and who is the majority.

48

[–] seiyria 6 points 48 points (+54|-6) ago  (edited ago)

This is not globally applicable across all GitHub projects, only ones that use this CoC. You are not required to use one and if you disagree with it, do not use it.

[–] blergh- 0 points 30 points (+30|-0) ago

So, straight up- pretend that the code of conduct said stuff about the inherent supremacy of whites or whatever, and then had a rider saying it's "just a template". Would you be like "oh, ok, I can work with that group, I just have to cross out the parts about racism", or would you be like RACISTS ARE BAD NEWS, STAY AWAY!!

I argue the second is the rational response, and that's what this is.

4
-1

[–] seiyria 4 points -1 points (+3|-4) ago

What does it matter either way if I don't use one in my project or participate in those that have it? Literally nothing. If they want to push their values, that's fine with me, because I'm going to keep ignoring it. I also am not sure using a hyperbole is an effective method of describing this situation; in your case, many people would have left GitHub, complained about it, or gotten a ton of negative press about it, which makes it a moot point.

I'm not good at pretending with regards to unrealistic situations.

[–] verifiedbyvisa [S] 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Poster here, I thought GitHub (and the other companies at http://todogroup.org) intends this to be a CoC for the GitHub community, hence the 'retard' takedown earlier in the week.

But the consensus seems to be this is for GitHub's own repos. It's still disturbing to see GitHub (and the other companies) endorse racism and sexism.

Our open source community prioritizes marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort

If you are a straight white cis-male, it is time to get the fuck out of Dodge. Why the hell would you even consider staying somewhere where you are explicitly and officially lower priority than everyone else.

Even if they were to remove this from their code of conduct, don't go back and don't look back. The fact that they were able to put this policy in place suggests that they are so infested with SJWs that even without the official policy, you're going to be 'put in your place'.

Get out. Now. Run, don't walk.

Our open source community prioritizes marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. We will not act on complaints regarding:

‘Reverse’ -isms, including ‘reverse racism,’ ‘reverse sexism,’ and ‘cisphobia’

Reasonable communication of boundaries, such as “leave me alone,” “go away,” or “I’m not discussing this with you”

Refusal to explain or debate social justice concepts

Communicating in a ‘tone’ you don’t find congenial

Criticizing racist, sexist, cissexist, or otherwise oppressive behavior or assumptions

This looks like they are basically admitting to being SJWs and don't ask them to explain their logic because they ain't got any.
