Every. Damn. Thing. In /r/Portland is downvoted. It's a very unwelcoming subreddit to diverging opinions.

I want to say that most of the shittiness seems to come from commenters aligned with those two ideologies, but honestly, I see shit from everyone.

Most of the causticness seems to come from the fact that people get extremely invested in local issues because they have a greater and more immediately felt impact than other things. Couple that with online disinhibition and you get people at each other's throats because of bikes or whatever.

Its funny because coming from the left I view /r/portland as far more conservative than the community of Portland in general.

Which I attribute to the demographics of the sub...white, mostly male, with a professional job which permits them to fuck off during work hours hanging out on the sub. In addition the sub is very very transplant heavy, just try discussing leftist solutions to rising rents, gentrification, and a falling quality of life.

You'll be down voted to oblivion
