This is my area of scholarship and everything /u/Tokyofpv is saying is true. Our local voat right wingers love to fantasize about Japan's immigration policies without understanding anything about the culture or its government as a whole. The average Japanese knows nothing about the history of modern Japan. Imagine if the fall of the Berlin wall, the Challenger explosion or Kennedy assasinatiom weren't common knowledge, but you know the industrial revolution happened. This is how thick the blinders are on most Japanese citizens. There are still Japanese that believe racism doesn't exist in Japan even though Okinawans, Ainu, Koreans and Burakumin will tell you that is very much alive.

I totally agree... but rasicsm is not exactly what you think though..
I just traveled and lived in se Asia for three years and cringed at how each nation's individual thought the were buddah himself
Individuals think they carry around their own culture rule book and beat other people over the head with their made up rules.
It is never a black vs white thing. It is more like she doesn't dress or smoke the right stuff and they judge and crucify them.

That stuff happens too. One of my close friends was heart broken when she went home to Japan after a decade abscence and people were primarily concerned about her wearing colors inappropriate for age.
Virulent racism is very much alive in Japan. I've personally seen shit hit the fan when someone gets outed as Okinawan or Korean.
