If ~600,000 people (mostly whites against other whites mind you) dying in a war to end slavery isn't a big enough apology for you; then you can fuck right off.

To be fair thats really not why the war was fought. But still this shit is retarded and is the type of shit that makes me want to be racist.

You know ... it actually was why the war was fought. If you read their declarations of war, it's right there in plain black-and-white English.

http://www.ucs.louisiana.edu/~ras2777/amgov/secession.html

The Constitution of the United States, in its fourth Article, provides as follows: "No person held to service or labor in one State, under the laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in consequence of any law or regulation therein, be discharged from such service or labor, but shall be delivered up, on claim of the party to whom such service or labor may be due."

This stipulation was so material to the compact, that without it that compact would not have been made. The greater number of the contracting parties held slaves, and they had previously evinced their estimate of the value of such a stipulation by making it a condition in the Ordinance for the government of the territory ceded by Virginia, which now composes the States north of the Ohio River.

The General Government, as the common agent, passed laws to carry into effect these stipulations of the States. For many years these laws were executed. But an increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations, and the laws of the General Government have ceased to effect the objects of the Constitution. The States of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa, have enacted laws which either nullify the Acts of Congress or render useless any attempt to execute them. In many of these States the fugitive is discharged from service or labor claimed, and in none of them has the State Government complied with the stipulation made in the Constitution. The State of New Jersey, at an early day, passed a law in conformity with her constitutional obligation; but the current of anti-slavery feeling has led her more recently to enact laws which render inoperative the remedies provided by her own law and by the laws of Congress. In the State of New York even the right of transit for a slave has been denied by her tribunals; and the States of Ohio and Iowa have refused to surrender to justice fugitives charged with murder, and with inciting servile insurrection in the State of Virginia. Thus the constituted compact has been deliberately broken and disregarded by the non-slaveholding States, and the consequence follows that South Carolina is released from her obligation.

This is from the declaration of secession of the first state to secede.

If it helps ease the existing tensions is a formal apology really offensive to you? It costs nothing but has the potential for an upside. Where's the justifiable outrage in that?

Nice try. That was just one outcome of the war. However, it was not the reason for engaging in war. The reason was the issue of federal over-reach of power vs. individual state autonomy.

Our government is doing their best to erase that little detail from history. It's in their best interest, for the public to assume that they have always had this much power/overreach/input in your daily lives... History proves a government will never willingly give up power. It's like the blob. It just continues to grow and requires more and more people/money, until there's nothing left to consume, unless the people figure out a way to kill it.

Do you think the war was really about white men loving black men so much that they would die for them?

OR MAYBE IT WAS ABOUT MONEY.

When the Confederacy seceded from the United States, the bankers once again saw the opportunity for a rich harvest of debt, and offered to fund Lincoln's efforts to bring the south back into the union, but at 30% interest. Lincoln remarked that he would not free the black man by enslaving the white man to the bankers and using his authority as President, issued a new government currency, the greenback. This was a direct threat to the wealth and power of the central bankers, who quickly responded.

Goaded by the private bankers, much of Europe supported the Confederacy against the Union, with the expectation that victory over Lincoln would mean the end of the Greenback. France and Britain considered an outright attack on the United States to aid the confederacy, but were held at bay by Russia, which had just ended the serfdom system and had a state central bank similar to the system the United States had been founded on.

Why would Bernie be so foolish and condescending to assume that all whiteys need to apologize for Black slavery in America? Only the very wealthy ever owned slaves in America - the group that is now referred to as "the 1%". (Yes, I realize that he is pandering to groups such as BLM, etc.)

He can apologize on behalf of the long dead 1% of Southern Americans that owned slaves, but he needs to leave the rest of us out of it.

People in the North also owned slaves. It was not a South-only thing. It's also not a black-only thing (which annoys the hell out of me when the rest of the people, Irish, Italian, etc. get ignored or "it wasn't as bad" responses). My white forefathers were boated over and used as slaves just the same as the Africans boated over.

Also, 28% of free black own slave. A rate much much higher than the white population.

Thank you for mentioning this extra information; it is likely to be informative, and possibly eye-opening, to those that are unread on the subject.

I do appreciate the addendum, but I chose my words specifically because spending all of your time describing exceptions distracts from the actual topic at hand. (As you are aware, the vast majority of American slave owners were wealthy, Southern, white men.)

It's always good to point out that the evil, white men had some help in there too! ;)

Nah, it's because he needs the minority vote. It's the only group preventing him from beating Hillary. So he needs to pander to them more.

Looking at his words, he is saying that the office of the president needs to apologize, not all white people.

all those programs are simply to keep the people on them dependent on the state.

All reparations, but what are acts of reconciliation without an apology? Most people are happier to get an apology than something for their misery.

Didn't we already have a Jew die for that shit? Like a while ago?

w/e nothing wrong with a little refresher. Gotta consider, 20% of SC Trump voters disagree with the Emancipation Proclamation

It was a botched plan that wasn't followed through like Lincoln had proposed. He wanted to send most of the slaves back to Africa.

Can he get all blacks to apologize for not integrating into our culture and causing 50% of the crime in the country even though they only make up around 15% of the population while collecting most of the welfare? Or will he make sure the next Academy Awards show features enough blacks?

Apologize for what? Every single race has enslaved other races (including their own) throughout history. There were more Irish slaves laborers in the US than there were black slaves for example. Or how about those black slave owners in the US? Or the black Africans who had white slaves in Africa? Or how about those Muslims that still have slaves today? Do blacks want an apology from them?

Actually, who the fuck do you think was capturing Africans for sale into slavery? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't white Englishmen running around in the jungle. It was fellow Africans and Muslims who sold their neighbors into slavery. Do blacks want an apology from them?

In fact, whites were the first to abolish slavery. It's thanks to the powerful White men that slavery is no longer active within the borders of the West. Yet those are the exact people who get shit on for slavery. I wonder if those White men knew how fucking ungrateful, ignorant, and savage the black community would be after getting their freedom if they would have fought for that freedom at all.

Give me a sec to apologize to all the people I've raped, enslaved, and killed.

Oh wait, no one...

Done!
