Interesting that several people interviewed in this article have expressed wonder at Trump's high poll numbers claiming they don't know anyone who supports him.
This is typical of the kind of insular politics that has been characteristic of American presidential campaigns.
These people were speaking as attendees of rallys and town hall meetings for Trump's opponents. Of course they aren't likely to meet anyone who would vocally express their support for the Donald.
And even if someone were to speak out loudly and clearly in support of Trump at a Cruz, Bush, or Rubio meeting they run the risk of being shouted down and ostracized. That is one reason why there exists the idea of a silent majority.
Not that anyone, not even the media has a handle on what is going on exactly. Hillary has expressed surprise that Sanders is nipping at her heels when she really shouldn't have been if only the media was more honest in covering the Sanders campaign. The media has all but ignored the Rand campaign and it would have continued to do the same to Sanders if it weren't for the large number of individual campaign contributions he continues to receive.
