We don't have a TPP now so it wouldn't be horrible. People still want to trade with us so it's not like that trade will disappear. Classic example of the seen vs the unseen except in this case the seen is your prediction of the tpp. Samsung still wants to sell its screens. Why not open up trade completely? Because that would be more beneficial than our current protectionism as the tpp might but then you wouldn't control all the pieces would you? You want to benefit the economy if and only if you are extralegally protected.
This is the flaw in the TPP. International trade is supposed to be good because it opens up competition but the TPP manages to reduce competition by not allowing small firms to do what their respective sovereign nations would otherwise let them do. More competition in this case is achieved through complete isolation than locking in your corporate structure.
