Maybe I don't use twitter enough, but that's not what it looks like to me. "Verified" generally means "we made sure that's who they say they are" - which tells me little more than that. Removing that designation makes it look like you're saying that person is not who they claim to be. But we know that's obviously not the case, so if they did it because he said something they didn't like, it looks more like the act of a petulant child.
