My comment:
Encryption is the only way American citizens can restore and enforce 4th amendment protections that USG has abandoned in it's continual reach for greater and more intrusive powers.
Strong encryption is our right as a free people and any government that would seek to strip us of our privacy by weakening the only non-violent tool we have against these intrusions is a government that does not have the best interests of its citizenry in mind.
Under ITAR the government sought to classify strong encryption as an armament to limit its export. Some might see this as a stretch but I think it's the right idea; encryption is a purely defensive, non-violent weapon against tyranny and as an American not only are we to be secure from unreasonable search and seizure but we are also guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms.
Encryption with a backdoor is NOT strong encryption.

mine: This makes no sense. Modern e-commerce (to use a way dated phrase) exists only on the back of "strong" encryption. Just as you wouldn't say whatever came to mind or share personal information with anyone/anywhere in day to day life it would be unwise to do so digitally. It's the same reason that we have keys for cars and houses. You shouldn't have to give access to people that you don't want to.
