Analysis leaves out state taxes and social security which add up to a hefty slug in California at least.

That said, he ought to have specified corporate tax rate.

That said, he ought to have specified corporate tax rate.

It sounds like he was talking about middle class tax rates and not corporate rates

"Our taxes - we just put in a plan the other day - we’re going to reduce taxes tremendously because we have the highest tax rate anywhere in the world and our middle class is being absolutely destroyed," Trump said. "It’s being destroyed."

Yep, the analysis needs to look at total tax burden which should include (in addition to the taxes you mentioned) the combined NY State and NY City sales tax of 8.75% for example.

1) Even after including other taxes, the US effective rates are not close to as high as other nations, and that goes doubly for the wealthy who earn most of their money through long term capital gains. He said "taxes" not "tax rates", so he needs to be held to that.

2) Here's the speech, the tax stuff around 21+ minutes: http://www.c-span.org/video/?328732-1/donald-trump-campaign-rally-richmond-virginia

He never mentions corporate rates, and immediately afterwards mentions how hard the middle class has it- and the middle class pays around 10% effective federal + SS + Medicare + state + sales tax. Not even close to most of Europe.

So I suppose he should have mentioned corporate tax rates, but even if he did, it would have been misleading the way he was saying it.

Seriously though, I have never watched that much of on of his speeches before. I don't know how people can listen so someone say things like "We're gonna be great. It's gonna be so great you won't know what great is anymore it will be so great." Makes Dan Brown look like Shakespeare.

The president can do nothing about state and local taxes. If Trump is talking about them, it is out of ignorance of how the government works.

But it's a point of comparison. In some countries your national tax pays for everything. In the US you pay tax separately to three or four different levels of government and get different services from each. This should be taken into account when comparing tax burdens across different countries.

There are a lot of ways to look at what the "tax rate" is, and Politifact seems to have zeroed in on the least interesting ones.

Politifact seems to have zeroed in on the only ones that the president might be able to influence

Typical dishonesty from Politifiction, the anti-conservative hit-piece machine pretending to be a "fact checker."

They call out the 'libruls' too, it just so happens that they don't lie as much.

Trump lies.

There's no way that Donald Trump could actually believe that, he of all people has to know better.

It's worse. It's a half truth. We have the highest on paper tax rate. But it's so full of loopholes the effective rate is nowhere near the stated rate.

Bingo, this right here. Its like seeing the sticker price at a flea market, sure it says 50$ but I'm pretty sure they will take 5$ if I argue about it long enough and smile enough.

Oh, who gives a fuck? We're not electing him to be our political science professor. He got a fact wrong- but it is a fact that doesn't matter. The substance of what he is saying is that our taxes are too high. Bitter Sanderites start hyperventilating when they hear a billionaire say something about taxes being too high, but tough shit. A ton of Americans feel that they are getting robbed by the IRS.
