Seems the Democrats are also fracturing along with the Republicans. But i doubt if either of the parties will get the message the voters are sending as well as their own party members. Webb could see the hand witing on the wall of the Party big shots: "Hillary or bust"

Jim Webb was too good for the democratic party anyway, he probably realized how batshit crazy the current nominees are after the debates and decided it was time to go. Some of the Republicans are left of this guy, he's right, there is currently no room for a moderate in the democratic party.

I was 19 and didn't really follow politics back then but based on later impressions I would say yes. I was listening to a radio show earlier today that commenting on the lack of what they referred to as conservative democrats in today's party. I'm sure there were liberal republicans as well. We are definitely a lot further right and left than we were in the 90's.
