To believe there is no god is just as much of an assumption as believing there is one. As far as I'm aware, there isn't any evidence that there is no god, only that parts of the many established religions are not true. There could very well be a god and we just don't have the information and perspective to understand what it is. I doubt it's some bearded dude in a cloud, though.

This is an oft-repeated statement by the credulous, and it's bullshit. There is simply zero evidence of deities. Not believing in the existence of something for which there is no evidence is not anywhere near as much of an assumption as believing in something for which there is no evidence. Could there be deity? Sure, and there could be dragons, unicorns, and Romulans using cloaking devices; difference is no one questions a lack of belief in those things.

This is a cliche response to the factual statement, and it's actually bullshit. If you're going to go with the assumption that there are no deities until proven otherwise and that there is no divine reward for living a virtuous life, the only point to living is the reduction of pain and the advancement of pleasure. In other words: You, and everyone you know, will experience much more suffering and hardship in the remainder of your lives than you will experience pleasure. Your children, and your children's children, will continue the cycle of suffering. Therefore, the only logical choice to make is to kill yourself to spare future generations suffering.

Atheism is sanctimonious, bitter, catty NIHILISM, and does absolutely no good to anyone besides providing an unearned superiority complex.

Edit: for those who don't know what I mean about the pain/pleasure spectrum and are just getting butthurt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism

There is a difference, in that Athiests do not follow the instructions of any religious leader, and are not inclined to wage war against others over religion.

Atheists haven't waged a bloody crusade against a religion just because of atheism(yet? Probably - people are assholes), but I've definitely seen enough fawning remarks over Dawkins that I wouldn't count him out as a religious leader.
