Zero tolerance: you can lay on the ground, beat to a pulp, and do nothing, and still be expelled. Might as well fuck the other bastard up.

Exactly. If I were to ever have a kid that was going to a zero tolerance school I'd tell him to go all out if he ever got into a fight because the result will be the same.

As a strong liberal progressive, I oppose zero tolerance and think this kid's arrest was stupid.

Because rational adults can make decisions based on all the evidence available to them, rather than knee-jerk an automatic arrest reaction.

Rational adults also can explain the reasoning that led to a decision.

The question is: Why did he bring the device to school?

Also this happened in the deep red state of Texas, another reason not to blame liberals. Schools are managed by the state.

It's about racism?

No, it is about a teenager who was supposedly called a "Terrorist Bomb Maker' by class mates and who then decided to build a mock briefcase bomb and present it as his school project "clock".

And it is about a family that chose to enable this behavior designed to scare his peers instead of having his claims of bigoted comments investigated.

Race? Since when did religion = race. That won't fly with me. Stop bullshitting.

MSNBC this very evening. I PERSONALLY watched this boy sitting next to his mom on the Chris Hayes show say precisely what I relayed.

Now that you know that, how did it change your position?

Could you at least use a good English translation tool like Google or something. That was incoherent.

The kid was irresponsible period. There is no way that contraption comes anywhere close to resembling a clock. Police and school authorities should be praised for erring on the side of caution. Why risk childrens lives just to stay on the right side of political correctness?

What does a kids homemade clock look like?

The school took a couple of hours to call the cops over a supposed bomb scare. Are you actually defending this?

Kids are, by definition, irresponsible. If the adults in charge act like idiots, how are the kids supposed to learn to be responsible?

If they actually thought it was a bomb, they would have evacuated the school.

There is no way that contraption comes anywhere close to resembling a clock.

Yet it was a clock. Also, it was an LCD display hooked up to a circuit board and a power plug inside of a fucking case. That's exactly what a digital clock is. Were you expecting a little bird to pop out of a case full of gears? This isn't the 40s.

Why risk childrens lives just to stay on the right side of political correctness?

It's not about being politically correct, it's about being intelligent.

Are you that completely naive as to think this kid was not aware of what he was doing? He likely did it for attention and was not aware of political consequences, but he knew his clock would look like a bomb. That is how 14 year olds think and act.
