That article could have been proofed a little better, but long story short is that Alaskans have been pushing for years for the mountain to be recognized by it's original name.

The history is pretty interesting. Honestly, it didn't make a whole lot of sense for it to be named after McKinly in the first place. And it definitely didn't make sense to keep the name McKinley once the name of the national park it's located in was changed from Mt. McKinley to Denali - back in 1980 by president Carter.
