I've said it before and I'll say it again - Take the TSA's budget and give it to NASA. NASA can then go "Look for terrorist on Mars" and I'm pretty sure they'll be just as successful as the TSA looking for terrorist in the airports.

I pretty sure the guy who signed the purchase order for the TSA was heavily invested in the company that made the scanners

As much as I hate to plug the show because it went to shit, NoAgendaShow did a ton of research on these things when they were filled out.

They came out in response to the Underwear bomber but are completely incapable of detecting the type of device the underwear bomber used.

The owner of the company is also some former White House guy (something along those lines). Basically, some government official left the government and scammed them into buying fish oil.

It can however detect a dime bag of weed foolishly forgotten in the pocket of a pair of cargo shorts

I think you are talking about Michael Chertoff and Rapiscan.

Chertoff runs a consulting firm with a dozen or so other former Homeland Security officials. Rapiscan is one of their clients.

It seems to me like these officials used their positions of authority to create an environment of fear, then they capitalized by selling snake-oil-remedies to the fearful state.

Sure makes you question the validity of the alleged underwear bomber's motives.

I remember reading that democrat megadoner George Soros owned the company that sold the body scanners.

Soros did make a little profit off the devices, but he was a very minor player about $300k of a $1.4b mkt cap company. The parent company for most of the devices is OSI Systems through their subsidiary RapidScan. The reason these are bought is because Michael Chertoff, the second United States Secretary of Homeland Security for G.W. Bush, pulled his strings.

You're close thinking it was dirty politics... but it was the dirty Republicans that orchestrated this fleecing.

Also look into the history of ACUs. The camouflage that didn't work, but got a couple generals in charge of requisitions private consulting jobs after they retired. I fully believe everyone involved in UCP should be tried for treason on account of the people that were killed as a result.

And history will tell that the machines were billed at $60K each when in reality they were only $25K.

It's not their money, what do they care?

I recently read an article from popular electronics in 2000 talking about the new advances made in mm wave electronics technology and all the amazing things that could be done with it like cough cough imaging for security. Big article heavily technical, basically seemed like they were just dying to use this technology but didn't have a lot of legitimate uses for it yet.

Jump cut to 9/11/2001

Now this shit is at hundreds of airports and we're none safer because of it.

Fuck the system
