I'm actually just waiting to see how it all plays out. It's very difficult in the middle of a controversy over a year before the elections to see how it will ultimately play out. It could ruin her candidacy or it could pass. Lots of controversies do just that. The public and the media both have very short attention spans. By this time next year no one will be worried about these emails - either because Hillary is no longer in the race, or because it is old news and there is something new to talk about. Honestly, I think it would have been far better for Republicans if this had happened next year instead. As it is now, there is actually plenty of time for Dems to find a new candidate if necessary.

If it happened closer to the election, don't you think the established media would treat it more as a crazy Republican conspiracy rather than a legitimate issue?

Not at all. The Dems would - and it might be an easier sell that late in the game. However the media is really governed by profits and a big scandal will always get viewers. In addition, you'd get bonus air time while they debate what effect it would have on the imminent election.

The only thing I would add is that at this point the Clinton's have been attacked (rightly or wrongly) so often through the years that it may carry less weight than usual. Regardless if you think they are crooked or the victims of a witch hunt another investigation probably just confirms that opinion. Whereas if something similar happened to an unknown it would carry more sway.
