It really encapsulates the thinking of Boomers. Thinking that reading or writing cursive is a valuable or useful skill, or that being able to do math quickly without a calculator is necessary. When was the last time you ever had to do math and did not have your phone immediately accessable?

Yes, doing math in your head or on paper is good mental exercise, but realistically it will almost never be needed. There are skills that younger people are no longer taught or practice like being able to read a book for long periods of time and not get distracted, but those skills are never mentioned. It's always skills that are no longer relevant.
