This might be why voter turnout is poor - people feel like it doesn't matter, but in fact, it does matter, and the reason why it's all shit today is that people aren't figuring out the differences between the candidates and voting accordingly.

I don't blame many people though, with the media and advertising today being at least as much misinformation as information, it's not that easy to know who or what to believe, but if you make the effort to to beyond just what your favorite Fox/MSNBC or whoever is shilling, the differences are there, and they do matter.

Then again Bernie Sanders is right, that even the President has very little power without grassroots support to make congress sit up and listen. They can just fiddle while the USA slides into an oligarchy and our infrastructure crumbles, unless voters hold them accountable to provide policies and legislation that make a difference to the citizens.
