That was the 1950's and I was a punk nine year old, probably getting a rise out of Grandma and Grandpa, just because I could. They were old line New Englanders, liberal Republicans. I honestly can't remember what my reasoning, if any, was. Truth is, if anything, I probably instinctively sensed no good deed goes unpunished. I have since outgrown those juvenile habits, but the truth of the matter is, the blacks moved in to their neighborhood and by the time my Grandpa died it was unsafe for him to walk to the corner store a few blocks away. That was the old neighborhood. It is now Irish and Asian & no problemo. :)
