It seems to be.

And yet another bogus Washington quote:

A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government

The actual quote:

A free people ought not only to be armed but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well digested plan is requisite: And their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories, as tend to render them independent on others, for essential, particularly for military supplies. ---George Washington's First Annual Message to Congress (January 8, 1790)

"A free people....for essential, particularly for military supplies."

TIL: George Washington considered military supplies to be essential for free people to own.

It's not really a fake quote, but one converted into something our dumbed-down society can comprehend.

This is like saying children's bibles are all fake.

Like Ford's quotes on the Protocols.

This is like saying children's bibles are all fake.

They are, yeah. You can't just pervert the message.

This is like saying children's bibles are all fake.

As far as I know, religious educators always use the same Bible texts for adults and children. However, children are given dumbed-down coloring books about "stories from the Bible." I have never known a child to confuse a coloring book with an actual Bible. Maybe I am ignorant. Maybe there are Christian congregations that rewrite the Bible for kids. (It certainly would help when dodging questions like "What does 'adultery' mean?")

Now I am curious. Are there any examples of such "children's bibles" online?

Edit: Books like: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/67864/the-golden-childrens-bible-by-j-grispino/9780307165206/

and

https://biblehub.com/childrens/

do not appear to falsify the text; they appear to be reasonably accurate translations.
