Born that way makes perfect sense. What you are describing is a social construct. It is far far more acceptable for a girl to get with girls and guys, then for a guy to do the same. Plenty of girls want nothing to do with bi guys, a lot of gay people think they need to pick a side or stop trying to deny their nature, and they get a lot of shit. It is much harder to flit back and forth because of this, whereas women can do whomever they please generally without the same social pressure or disdain.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was true, to some extent. it seems like they flock to BDSM for similar reasons. Seeking acceptance and sex from alternative places cause they can't get it anywhere else. I am convinced a fair number of so called submassive as well as Domme obese women in BDSM got there because they figured out catering to fetishes got them more attention. That is not to say lesbianism is a fetish, mind you. Just that finding acceptance and love outside the so-called mainstream would be an attractive proposition for fatties.
