According to that study homosexual boys are more likely to have athletic esteem issues due to their sexuality than girls, and yet they're less likely to be obese, so clearly athletic esteem isn't the cause of lesbian obesity.

I blame fat acceptance. They get told its OK to be a bucket of lard, presumably by tumblrina lesbians while connecting over their love of boobies, and never get it out of their heads. Damn it lesbians, you are killing yourselves!

Body size as a political statement? Could be that too. I doubt anyone would study that though, too "victim-blamy"

Yeah. I wasn't trying to comment on my interpretation of any of this information, just trying to helpfully answer one of your questions. I think I pretty much agree with your conclusions. Another commenter said something about maybe women are more comfortable with each other and aren't picky guys. That was mostly what I was thinking. Guys tend to desire physical beauty more. Gay guys and straight women are probably more mindful of this and try to be physically appealing to attract partners. And as you were saying, straight men tend to be more obese than straight women, so obviously straight men don't see it as a necessity for finding a partner, just as lesbians do not.
Obviously I don't know the answers for sure. I'm just some guy. But that makes the most sense to me. Doing what the study suggested and coming up with some kind of "safe space" physical activity environment to try to include more gay people when they probably aren't interested to begin with strikes me as misguided.

Thanks for doing my own digging for me :p Much appreciated.
Yeah, that sounds more likely.
